Dana Cromie: Botanical Illustration

Dana.jpgDana Cromie is a member of the Alpine Garden Club of BC and  a life long artist and gardener. Although he has a long history of floral themed painting, plant portraits in the style of Botanical Illustration were new to him in 2010. He chanced to take a class in Botanical Watercolour with Alison Watt at the UBC Garden where he has volunteered for ten years.

The combination of specific observations and accurate representation while maintaining my personal impression of the subject has great appeal to me. My long association with collecting and growing plants in a tiny space has created a fine appreciation for the personality of plants. The past ten years as a Friend of the University of British Columbia Botanical Garden has given me enormous insight to the intimate botanical workings of plants. My current goal as an artist is to capture the spirit of my subject without misrepresenting the botanical details.

Dana is Artist in Residence at the UBC Botanical Garden
