Todd Boland: Alpines of the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland

Join Todd for a recap of the June 2022 NARGS tour of this magical corner of Europe.

Todd graduated from the Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1994 with a MSc. in plant ecology, with a focus on native orchids. Today he is the horticulturist at the Memorial University of Newfoundland Botanical Garden, where he designs and maintains six acres of horticultural plantings. His particular plant passions are alpines and Asian flora. Todd has lead botanical tours to Greenland, the Torngat Mountains of Labrador, the Canadian Rockies, the Swiss Alps and Newfoundland. In regards to Newfoundland, he has been a tour manager for 4 years with Greentours, a UK based company, leading tours to Newfoundland’s unique limestone barrens region, an area festooned with Arctic-alpine plants and a host of orchids.

Todd is the current vice-president of NARGS and chair of their Newfoundland Chapter. A prolific photographer, writer and international lecturer, he has authored six photographic field guides on the flora of Atlantic Canada including Trees and Shrubs of Newfoundland and Labrador and The Wildflowers and Ferns of Newfoundland. More recently he has completed his third gardening book, this one co-authored with Nova Scotian Jamie Ellison, entitled Gardening on Acid Soil.
