Shona Ellis: Plants of Haida Gwaii

Shona Ellis is Professor of Teaching Emerita in the Department of Botany at the University of British Columbia. She spent her career teaching plant biology, botany, and ecology, with a particular interest in experiential, field-based learning. She also served for several years as Associate Head of Biology. Shona is a co-author of a first-year biology textbook that integrates Indigenous perspectives. She continues to teach plant ecology through the Haida Gwaii Institute, where she encourages students to explore ecosystem diversity and develop their understanding of plants through field-based learning.
